Behavior Guidelines Policy
While at the Library, or on Library grounds, patrons are to be engaged in the activities associated with the use of a library 1 and they may not:
1. Bring any weapon 2 or any object, device or instrument having the appearance of a weapon 3 into the Library, or use any object – although not necessarily designed to be a weapon (such as lasers; laser pointers; belts; combs; pencils; scissors, etc.) – to inflict bodily harm and/or to threaten, intimidate, coerce or harass another person
2. Harass patrons or staff
3. Use obscene, threatening, or abusive language
4. Tamper with, alter, edit, or damage Library computers, software, or equipment
5. Violate posted computer usage rules
6. Talk loud enough to disrupt the quiet use of the Library by others
7. Damage, deface, steal, or misuse library property
8. Leave children or dependent persons unattended (See the Library’s Policy on Child Supervision, P-7 4)
9. Act in any disorderly manner
10. Litter
11. Use tobacco in the Library or near entrances
12. Eat or drink, except in designated areas
13. Put feet on chairs or rearrange furniture
14. Loiter, solicit, or sleep
15. Be under the influence of, or distribute alcohol or other drugs; or engage in the use of illegal substances
16. Interfere with other library patrons' use of the library because of extremely poor hygiene
17. Bring animals into the library unless required for personal assistance
18. Go barefoot or shirtless
19. Play audio devices except through headphones at a level not audible to others
20. Use roller blades, roller skates, skateboards, or other sports equipment in the Library or on Library property
21. Block aisles or entrances in a manner that limits access to Library materials or services
22. Enter unauthorized work spaces or office areas
23. Engage in conduct which:
a) Is Illegal
b) Is inconsistent with the purpose of the Library
c) Disrupts the orderly operation of the Library
d) Interferes with the use of the Library by others

1 Personal safety at the Library is important. If problems arise, patrons are asked to go to staff for assistance
2 A "weapon" means any object, device or instrument designed as a weapon or, through its use, capable of threatening or producing bodily harm, or which may be used to inflict self-injury including, but not limited to, any firearm, whether loaded or unloaded; airguns; pellet guns; BB guns; all knives; blades; clubs; metal knuckles; numchucks; throwing stars; explosives; fireworks; mace and other propellants; stunguns; ammunition; poisons; chains; arrows; and objects that have been modified to serve as weapons.
3 Any object, device or instrument having the appearance of a weapon shall, for purposes of this policy, be regarded as a weapon, including but not limited to weapons listed in footnote 1, above, which are broken or non-functional; look-alike guns; toy guns; and any object that is a facsimile of a real weapon.
4 Parents are responsible for the conduct of their children in the Library (see the Library’s Policy on Child Supervision, P-7).
5 Improper or illegal behavior in the Library or on the Library grounds is prohibited. Those engaged in such behavior will be asked to leave. The police may be called. Individuals may be prosecuted.
